Nope, they ain't together--just share the same room, the same work, the same cigarettes, the same bed, but Jack thinks back to the way Ennis' jaw had been tight with anger at that unnamed fella who Jack is gonna have some serious words with if he ever finds out who it was, and he thinks back to that first night at the cheap motel and Jack holds his tongue and holds on to Ennis. It's all he can do, sometimes. Hold on and hope.
